Whisk Your Loved One Away on a Honeymoon to Remember

A honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime escape, a time to celebrate, reminisce and forge amazing memories. So rather than following the pack to traditional destination favourites, why not opt for a honeymoon experience that’s truly unique and full of undiscovered, romantic charm?

Of course, it’s not just newlyweds who yearn for romantic destinations: nearly half (49%) of travellers say that a ‘romantic atmosphere’ will be a key consideration when picking a destination this year. And we see a growing contingent of travellers planning and taking ‘romantic trips’ such as a honeymoon or anniversary: over one in ten travellers went on a romantic holiday in 2017, growing to more than a third (37%) who expect to take such a trip in 2018.

To offer some inspiration, we reveal some of the world’s top romantic gems just waiting to be explored...

Sinetta, Finland

Take a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Sinetta, the home of huskies, reindeer and breath-taking views of the Northern Lights. Whether that’s riding through a snowy wonderland on a husky lead sleigh, visiting the Santa Claus Village or trying skiing at the Ounasvaara Ski Resort, there’s something for every kind of newlywed at this winter wonderland.

Where to stay: Get cosy with a stay in the Arctic Glass Igloos in Sinetta. These glass igloos are located on the Arctic Circle and each offer heated floors and thermal glass roofs with a view of the sky, perfect for cuddling under the stars. The igloos also have a special Aurora Borealis alarm service that guarantees guests won’t miss a sighting of the Northern Lights. Guests can enjoy a snow sauna, outdoor hot tub and can grab a bite or drink in the ice bar and restaurants.

Stranraer, Scotland

Stranraer has a history as a ferry port, situated at the head of Loch Ryan. As well as attractions like the Logan Botanic Garden, Castle Kennedy Gardens and Stranraer Museum, visitors have a range of delicious seafood restaurants to choose from with views straight up the loch.

Where to stay: Keep your love alight with a stay at the Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel, which offers an idyllic getaway in the remote village of Kirkcolm in Stranraer where even the local pubs and restaurants are a drive away. With its light still beaming as a warning for ships approaching the mouth of Loch Ryan, Corsewall Lighthouse has the charm and romance of a functioning lighthouse from 1815 with all the comforts of a present-day hotel. The unique property has a restaurant on site where you can indulge in breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an option to add champagne – perfect for toasting to your new life together!

Urgup, Turkey

Let love lift you up and away with a trip to Urgup, where you can admire all the jaw-dropping sites from a hot air balloon. Sail across the “Land of Beautiful Horses” and admire the famous vineyards, moon-like landscapes and fruit orchards. At the end of the trip, passengers can celebrate with a glass of champagne. Safely back on the ground, why not try a glass of the local vintage, as Urgup is the region's wine capital.

Where to stay: Asuwari Suites Cappadocia is located in Urgup and is a short walk away from local landmarks including the Mazi Underground City and Nikolos Monastery. The property itself offers a boutique experience, along with all the rustic charm you'd expect from a 110-year-old family home.

Neltume, Chile

To explore the region's glistening lakes and hot springs, hike across the Saltos Del Huilo-Huilo or visit the Choshuenco volcano in Neltume for a truly remote romantic getaway. You'll be in awe of the many contrasting landscapes on offer, from serene waterfalls and imposing, snow-topped mountains to lush forests.

Where to stay: Create your own love nest with a treehouse stay at Huilo Huilo Nothofagus Hotel & Spa, within walking distance to area's rivers and lakes. The location is ideal for couples wanting a break from city life. The property features swimming pools and a spa, as well as a charming restaurant serving a variety of dishes to suit every palate. For the active couple, you can even hire ski equipment on site and take to the slopes for a completely different kind of experience.
