Tech Opens Up a World (Wide Web) of travel Inspiration
Technology is developing at the speed of light, fueling a sense of wonder, and is being used in new and exciting ways to inspire travelers in 2020. This doesn’t only lie in the introduction of new tech, but also in how people use existing tech, and how it can play a key role in providing travelers with fresh inspiration.
With a mission to make it easier for everyone to experience the world, Booking.com reveals that nearly six in 10 (58%) of global travelers say they connect with online travel communities to find insider information into less mainstream destinations, which inspires them to explore something a bit different. Using tech as a vehicle for inspiration continues, with two-thirds (61%) of global travelers saying that social and online media introduces them to a wide variety of destinations that they’re unfamiliar with but would be keen to visit.
However, it’s not just about empowering travelers by providing new inspiration to get to their destination – tech will play an even greater role in improving and enhancing the travel experience when they’re there too. The research reveals a continued shift away from the traditional guide book, with almost two-thirds (63%) of global travelers agreeing that travel apps make it easier to find new things to do in places. Similarly, travelers are also looking to tech for inspiration on where to stay - 65% say that booking websites offer them an easy way to find a place to stay, especially when it comes to looking outside of the main tourist areas. Six in 10 (59%) travelers would even want tech to offer them ‘wildcard’ and surprise options that would introduce them to something entirely new.
From search engines to social media, tech is becoming as key to travel itineraries as places to stay or transportation, and is opening up a world of new opportunities for global travelers.
